[News] Five Key Reasons Why “Miss Ripley” Should Not Be Missed

(Repeated Information Omitted)

From the use of “social issues” as its concept to the drama planning stage, as well as strong cast members and press conference, there has been a lot of buzz about “Miss Ripley,” but what kind of work is “Miss Ripley” exactly? We will now reveal one by one, the five points of attraction for this classic melodrama that has shaken Korea, “Miss Ripley.”

◆ An integration of “Social issues that rocked Korea”

In 2007, the “resume forgery” incident caused a great uproar in Korea, starting with a debate about one person’s “resume forgery,” which led to several famous people being forced to go public regarding the truth about their own education history, and also brought to light other social problems that were put up in public forums during this time. Korea’s societal view that the academics is everything, the corruption of the financial sector, and the society’s disregard for principles etc. Anyone who lives in this world would have gone through or been hurt by such issues, and all of the abovementioned social problems were present in the said incident.

“Miss Ripley” is about lie that was told by one woman, which led to her mistaken success, and also gives a realistic interpretation of the unjust rules that have been deeply embedded within society.

◆Lee Da Hae, who unabashedly shows the greed and desires of humans, and Kang Hye Jung, the embodiment of innocence.

In “Miss Ripley,” Lee Da Hae plays a character who “Lies so that she can live, and reaps great rewards because of it. However, she is not satisfied and shows more greed and desire,” the role of Jang Miri. Lee Da Hae said that at the beginning, she worked really hard to express the role of Jang Miri who “struggled to escape from living hell.” Wearing a red wig and tight-fitting outfits, running barefoot around the Japanese city center and such, Lee Da Hae focuses her entire being in acting, and her transformation is the most important point to notice in the drama.

Also, Kang Hye Jung, who has returned to the acting scene after 4 years, is increasingly piquing the audience’s interest with her transformation. Kang Hye Jung with her unique acting style will be playing the role of the innocent and adorable Moon Hui Joo, showing a pure and carefree side. The two ladies’ passionate performance will heighten the excitement of the drama.

◆Kim Seung Woo and Park Yoochun, the perfect image transformation!

Kim Seung Woo has shown various different images through dramas and movies. In this drama, he plays a man suspended in a loveless marriage, who later finds true love, the role of hotel manager Jang Myeong Hoon. Kim Seung Woo had said, “I really wanted to act in a classic melodrama, and I will realistically express the interpretation of a deep love by someone in their 40s”

Park Yoochun, who successfully played the character Lee Seon Joon in 2010, will be taking on the role of the “flawless” modern day Prince Charming, Song Yoo Hyun. Song Yoo Hyun is warm and kind, and firmly believes that Jang Miri, who “makes use of him for her own success” is the true love that he needs, and cannot help himself. In this second role, how will Park Yoochun convey the emotions of love and pain for his character? This is something to look out for.

◆Realistic representation of managing a luxury hotel

A top-class hotel with a luxurious atmosphere and rich culture. People who are in control of the 21st century world economy, culture, trends and other markets gather at this hotel in the city. With such a hotel as the background, a story about the career and love between the employees managing the hotel unfolds, and the greed and romance that lies behind the magnificent successes and failures are realistically expressed. Set in a hotel where all kinds of people come and go, the management staff fights for the survival of the hotel, and through this drama, we can see their honest emotions.

◆Choi Myeong Gil, Song Jae Ho, Jang Yong… Aided by the presence of veteran actors! Detailed completion of the drama!

We anticipate the heavyweight performances of Korean veteran actors, which helps the viewers immerse themselves in the drama. In the show, Jang Yong is the CEO of the global resorts conglomerate, Choi Myeong Gil plays the role of Park Yoochun’s mother, Song Jae Ho is the director of Hotel “A”who values Kim Seung Woo greatly, Kim Na Woon is Kim Seung Woo’s close friend and colleague, etc. These veteran actors create a strong backing, increasing the well-roundedness of the drama.

[News] From A Young Confucian Student To The Successor Of A Conglomerate, Park Yoochun Has Returned

Park Yoochun has returned.

When Park Yoochun made his acting debut through the drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, he was chosen as the idol-turned-actor with the most talent and success and made many disregard the stereotypes placed on him.

Park Yoochun played the role of the handsome, wealthy and smart yet haggard Lee Seon Joon and surprised many with his natural vocalization, despite the fact that it was a historical drama, and his on-screen chemistry with his fellow actors. Being one of the major factors in the success of the drama, Park Yoochun was given the honor of receiving the Best Male Newcomer Award at the recently held ‘Baeksang Arts Awards’.

His second challenge is MBC’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Miss Ripley’. The production is a typical melodrama that centers around a woman whose lies snowball and tangle her in her own web of never-ending lies. Compared to the light nature of his previous drama, which revolved around the love and dreams of youths, ‘Miss Ripley’ deals with quite a heavy theme that requires subtle and delicate expressions of emotions.

Park Yoochun plays the role of Song Yoo Hyun, the perfect Prince Charming of our generation. With a warm heart and a kind spirit, Song Yoo Hyun believes that Jang Miri truly loves him, when she is only using him for her own success, and ends up falling into a state of distress and despair.

One could say that his character differs completely from the haggard image of most conglomerate successors in the drama industry these days. His new character is also completely different from Lee Seon Joon of ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’. This might make it harder for Park Yoochun to fall into his character. He has been given the responsibility to create a whole new image for conglomerate successors.

In the recent ‘Miss Ripley’ press conference, Park Yoochun confessed that he felt pressured about his role as he said, “I felt really pressured by my role,” and “I worry if I’ll be able to express the character well. I thought and worried a lot about acting even after I chose this drama as the follow-up to my first production.”

Regarding the difference between Lee Seon Joon and Song Yoo Hyun, Park Yoochun stated, “The difference lies in their methods of expressing pain. Song Yoo Hyun is a character who always starts off everything with a smile. I think he’ll be a character who is bright but has many tears.

Many are curious to see if Park Yoochun, who gained popularity, the favor of critics and awards for his role in ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, will be able to showcase improved acting skills while creating a new image for conglomerate successors in the drama industry.

[News] Is Ripley’s Park Yoochun On The Blacklist Of MBC Variety Programs?

Much attention is currently focused on the fact that the appearance of the cast of MBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Ripley’, which includes JYJ’s Park Yoochun, on MBC’s variety shows has fallen through.

According to a broadcasting company represetnative, the leading roles of Ripley, Park Yoochun, Lee Da Hae, Kang Hae Jung and Kim Seung Woo, had been attempting to schedule an appearance on the MBC variety show ‘Come To Play’ since the end of April in order to promote their new drama but were unsuccessful.

‘Come To Play’ stated that the chances of all four leading roles appearing on the show would be slim as Kim Seung Woo currently works as an MC for ‘On A Roll (SeungSeungJangGu)’, a TV show of MBC’s rival broadcasting company KBS.

However, after the team went through great troubles to confirm Kim Seung Woo’s appearance on the show, ‘Come To Play’ suggested that the three leading roles excluding Park Yoochun appear on the show, leading to the cancellation of the plan.

Even ‘Section TV Entertainment News’, MBC’s entertainment news program, cancelled its interview with the cast of ‘Ripley’ at the drama’s poster-shoot which took place on the 29th. The team from the ‘Entertainment Plus’ section of MBC’s ‘Good Day’ was present on location to interview the cast members but ‘Good Day’ is considered an educational program.

Usually, entertainment news programs visit the poster-shoot location of their respective broadcasting companies’ dramas in order to hold interviews and promote these upcoming attractions. Speculations escalated as it was found that ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ had scheduled an interview with the ‘Ripley’ cast, only to suddenly cancel the plans later on.

Regarding this, a representative of ‘Section TV Entertainment News’ did not say much as he said, “It was because there were too many items to present that day.” But rumors are spreading that the MBC Variety Program sector has buckled under the pressure from SM Entertainment. A PD, who asked to be anonymous, sighed and said, “You all know what’s going on so why do you even bother asking? It feels like we’re treading on glass because of the situation.”

Even when Park Yoochun appeared on the hit KBS drama ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’, he didn’t appear on any KBS variety programs. Though he has appeared on countless news reports and current affairs programs since his dispute with his agency, he has been unable to cross over the wall that surrounds the nation’s variety programs.

‘Ripley’ Cast’s Appearance On ‘Come To Play’ Falls Through.. “Why?”

The appearance of the cast of Ripley, MBC’s new Monday-Tuesday drama which Park Yoochun plays a leading role in, on MBC’s ‘Come To Play’ has fallen through and many are curious to know the reason behind it.

According to a broadcasting company representative on the 3rd, Kim Seung Woo, Kang Hae Jung, Lee Da Hae and Park Yoochun, the leading roles of the drama, recently sought out an appearance on ‘Come To Play’ to promote their drama but the plan fell through. This brought about speculations that the appearance fell through because of Park Yoochun, who is currently locked in a dispute with SM Entertainment.

Though Park Yoochun appeared as the leading role in KBS 2TV’s ‘SungKyunKwan Scandal’ last year, he was not seen on any KBS variety shows. Therefore, many believe that the ‘Ripley’ team’s inability to appear on ‘Come To Play’ may be related to this.

Regarding the controversy surrounding the ‘Ripley’ cast and Park Yoochun, a production representative of ‘Come To Play’ stated, “The cast of ‘Ripley’ did attempt to appear on ‘Come To Play’ but we have decided to drop the idea,” and “In the case of dramas like ‘Ripley’, the ‘Come To Play’ episode would have to air before the drama begins airing, but because the filming schedule for the cast is already packed, we had trouble adjusting the schedule to find a time that suited everyone.”

He continued to add, “This has nothing to do with Park Yoochun. We are being suspected by many for something that is not true because Park Yoochun just happens to be a member of the Ripley cast (T/N: The term he uses is 오비이락 which means “A pear drops as soon as a crow flies from the tree.”).”

On the other hand, a representative of Curtain Call Media, the drama’s production company, gave schedule adjustments as the reason behind the issue and said, “We were not able to attend the filming of ‘Come To Play’ because of Park Yoochun’s World Tour schedule. From what I know, the drama’s schedule frequently overlaps with his Asia Tour,” and “It was difficult trying to adjust the schedules.”

A representative of Park Yoochun’s agency stated, “It’s true that Park Yoochun is busy because of his ‘World Tour’ schedule,” and “But we never heard anything about dates for the filming of ‘Come To Play’.
